The Question Behind The Question
Apr 13, 2026There is a moment that happens, almost every time, when someone considers investing in themselves at a level that actually asks something of them.
A pause.
On the surface it looks like a practical question. Can I afford this? Is the timing right? Will I get the result I'm hoping for?
Those are fair questions. Necessary ones, even.
But underneath them — quieter, older, harder to look at — there is almost always a different question entirely:
"Am I worthy of the change I say I want?"
A few days ago I was driving with my younger brother. He looked over and asked me directly why my rates are so high.
Without hesitation, I said: "Because I'm worth it."
He went quiet. He wasn't expecting that.
But here's what I meant — and it has nothing to do with arrogance.
Everything you have (or don't have) in life is tied, in some way, to what you believe you deserve to receive.
There was a time when my rates were low. Comfortable. Introductory. Easy for people to say yes without feeling it.
And I noticed something: people who said yes without feeling it… didn't change.
They came. They listened. They nodded. And then they went back to the same life.
But when someone makes a decision that stretches them, when saying yes requires something real, they show up differently. They listen at a different frequency. They move with a different urgency. They stop treating transformation like something they're sampling and start treating it like something they've claimed.
When the investment asks something of you, it becomes a declaration. A stake in the ground.
Back in the 1800s, during the westward expansion, people were literally handed wooden stakes and sent out to claim land. They walked to the edge of something vast and unknown, drove a stake into the ground, and said: this is mine. I'm ready.
Transformation works exactly the same way.
There comes a point where wanting more isn't enough. Where hoping isn't enough. Where talking about the life you want isn't enough. At some point you have to stop standing at the edge of it — and claim it. With action. With commitment. With the willingness to say out loud: I am ready for more.
Recently, a couple joined our mastermind. They told me it was the single largest investment they'd ever made in themselves — outside of a home or a car.
And something shifted.
Not because of anything we did in the first session. But because of what they did the moment they decided. Their relationship started moving. The work started landing. They showed up like people who had already decided they were worth it — because they had.
That's the thing no one tells you:
The investment isn't just about what you receive. It's about who you become the moment you stop negotiating with your own growth.
The real transformation begins the second you say yes.
So when you find yourself asking "is this worth it?" — pause, and hear the deeper question underneath it.
Because what you're really asking is:
What am I willing to believe I deserve?
The investment is rarely just about money. It's about identity. It's about self-worth. It's about whether you are finally ready to stop standing at the edge of the life you want — and drive your stake into it.
